A Collection of PowerToys for OneNote

OneNote Search and Replace

June23

Dan has posted Jeffrey’s OneNote Search and Replace PowerToy

How it works

  1. Download the application from here: OneNoteSearchReplace.zip
  2. Extract the application and run the setup.exe
  3. You will now have a new toolbar button in OneNote which looks like this:
    image
  4. Click the button and you will see a window like this:
    image
  5. Now you can choose your search terms and what scope.
  6. Click Preview and Replace to try it out!

Additional Note: Dan also included a disclaimer that PowerToys posted on his blog [and all other blogs too] are not supported by Microsoft and are use at your own risk.

“OneNote Search and Replace”

Is anyone else having trouble with this? I installed it without incident, I can see the button on the toolbar, and I can click the button and access the dialog box. However, no matter what options I choose or what text I try to replace, whenever I click the Preview button, all I get is pop-up window that says “Search failed.”

I downloaded your One Note tool for Firefox v 2.0.0.4 and it was a version 1.0 not a 3.0 version as indicated. Please assist me in updating to One Note tool for Firefox to the 3.0 version. I can't seem to find your update. I would hate to give up Firefox for IE – Thanks!

Same thing for me. It installed just fine, but no matter what I enter, I always get the search failed pop-up.

Ok not a failed or malicious powertoy. After I installed windows Desktop Search 3.0, it works like a charm. I can't believe that Onenote didn't come with this in the first place.

    Awesome search and replace

Thank you Thank you Thank you!

I am Using Vist Ultimate x64, OneNote 2007. The powertoy installed fine, but when I click on the toolbar button, the button grays out and I get no screen. The button never restores itself. Why does this require windows Desktop Search 3.0? Hm…..

This did not work for me at all and I have spent way too much time on it. I tried uninstalling my desktop 4.0 and downgrading to 3.0. That didn’t even work. I am not getting a new toolbar in my One Note, it’s the same “search” only option as I have had.

Ok I finally figured it out. I had to check windows for updates (which I had set for automatic but because I use Mozilla and not Internet Explorer were not working) and once my windows updates were installed, I re-installed find and replace and it worked. It is a lifesaver because I am studying for the NYS Bar and my outline had one huge error. Thanks

Unlike others who left comments, I had no problems with the installation. After restarting, there was the button! I did a search and replace and it was all there! Saved me SO much work. Thank you. I guess you fixed whatever bugs there were. (And I’m on Firefox 3.5.) Great work!

Not what I am looking for. When I copy and paste text from a PDF, it copies the line breaks between text in a column as well. I want to find the CR-LF character and replace it with a space, thus putting all the text on the same line. This works in MS Word, but not with this tool.
