The one note powertoy I would most like to see is not listed. it is a rules-based organizer for the unfiled notes, similar to the oulook rule for incoming mail. When a new note shows up in the notebook, apply rules to automatically move it based on the subject and/or content.

For me, that wuld blow all the other power toys away. In fact, I would call it a Power-Tool, not a toy!

I would like to see a context menu item in IE so that when you right click on the web page or selected text, you can have the option to Send to OneNote (as if you were clicking the button in the toolbar. The main reason behind this is because some pages have javascript that prevents access to the toolbars but still allow the context menus to appear.

Hi!

I would like to see a tool to mark and copy to the clipboard only specific passages from (e.g. pdf) printouts in onenote and not always the entire text. A fairly easy though not perfect way would be to automate the workaround i frequently use: win s , clip the part of the text i want, then use “Copy Text from Picture” on it, delete the now superfluous page with the clipping.

As far as PDFs are concerned, IMO it’s easy enough to just copy the text from the original instead of sending the PDF to ON.

I like to have my own order of items. With sections this works perfectly, but it seems I cannot change the order of the section groups within a notebook or section group. Is there a way to do this? If not: this is a request for a powertool add on :) .

@Rainald Taeslar

Well, you are right, i could do that, but the reason why i copy the PDFs to ON is, that i can annotate them while reading on my tablet. Then, when i find a passage worth remembering or quoting, you suggest i should start acrobat, find the same page and then copy the passage? Well, not impossible..but not as convenient as it could be… especially if your reading/working through multiple papers at the same time.

Btw, it cant be that complicated to kinda record my workaround as a macro, can it? Is there a way i could do it myself?

Thanks,
Andi

One of the things that is missing is an alert that lets me know what has changed in each notebook since my last visit. Much like UNREAD emails in Outlook – I need to know how many unread pages I have in OneNote.

I would love a powertoy that made Tables more powerful in onenote. I find myself wanted to shade cells, align text, customize borders, maybe even sum columns of numbers.

Several good ones. I just started using Onenote and LOVE IT!! WOW.

I’d like to also see:

- ability to right-click from any site or a selection of text, to Onenote (links, images, etc..)
- Quickshapes (like in Powerpoint 2007) with 3d, color, lines, gradients, etc…
- More integration w/ SmartPhones.
- Ability to Save ALL workbooks quickly
- Ability to do larger Tags (somewhat like the baloon clouds)
- Ability to embed (or copy) video from YouTube or Slideshare

I would like something that allowed some line space and paragraph space formatting, at least at an equivalent level to powerpoint. I would also like to be able to set colurs for text boxes.

A powertoy or feature that I’d like to see for OneNote is an auto-window resize. I have a TabletPC with a widescreen display (1280×768) where I do most of my typing by keyboard. When I go to tablet mode (768×1280) all my OneNote “windows” go off the right hand side of the “page” and I have to use the scroll bars to see everything. It would be nice to either have it automatically resize the windows to fit everything on the screen (so that I just have to scroll down the page) or a button that will do it.

-Autoshapes (like in Word/PowerPoint), Contours and solid shapes would really be useful. Concidering this IS notetaking software, why are the drawing tools so primitive?

One final note, a very simple but useful addition may be an option to enable smooth dragging of textboxes. This is especially useful for diagram labels which currently are very difficult to properly position due to the dragging interval.

I’m not sure if this would be a “PowerToy” or not, since I’m quite a newbie when it comes to OneNote (in fact, perhaps this already exists and I have just not been able to find it). But add-ons for the “Research” function would be nice, since the research button itself is not very helpful. Perhaps integrate web searching for terms, linking it to an online dictionary and/or encyclopedia, etc. Basically streamlining research functions between what’s on the web, what’s on your notebook, and what might be useful to have in your notebook.

I’m dying to have the same equation editor in Word 2007 to be added to OneNote. As an engineering student, OneNotes inability to quickly and acuratly draw equations is the one thing preventing me from using it in all my classes.

I wouldn’t even mind if it supported Tex.

I would love to be able to resize my pages in print preview. Or even create a separate page for stuff I write of to the side.

The thing I’d most like to see is more drawing tools. I’d really like it if you could connect objects with arrows that follow them around. I’d also like to be able to create objects like boxes with a pen and then have them automatically convert to a clean box. Also, being able to group and resize combinations of drawing objects and text objects.

I’m not sure what is meant by the poll’s description of mindmap, but I use that product as well and i really would like OneNote to have tools similar to mindmap, or perhaps better linkage between the two products.

Another thing I’d like to see is a hyperlink from anything printed into onenote back to the document’s source. The ie add-in creates this for webpages, but why not create a link to the document for everything printed into onenote?

Also, since I find that I’m actually doing more notes with type than with tablet (which kinda surprised me) I’d like more shortcuts to switch tools. For example, I’d really like a keyboard shortcut for the lasso tool.

I would love a simple text box function, so i can enter text in a box or text into auto shapes (as per other Office programs ), and then change the background colour or borders. Actually would be almost as good if we could put a colored border or background on the note containers

It may exist, though I haven't been able to find it yet (if it does, please forgive my stupidity) – a button that eliminates excessive white space in a note page. Frequently when editing pages of notes, I delete whole notes. The remaining notes don't close up automatically, as text does in a word-processor say. It would be handy to have a button that rationalises the page, closing everything together, to eliminate excessive scrolling. Many thanks, Martin

That would be perfect. It is so frustrating to try to take notes in Onenote, and have to import my equations in from Word. Then if I have to edit the equation I have to delete the incorrect equation, go back to Word, find the original equation, edit it, and finally paste it back into Onenote. By then I am lost in class.

I'm a brand new One Note user. Just discovered that there's no ruler!!! I'm a bit shocked! It can't possibly be that hard to put one in there. How on earth am I supposed to accurately gauge for printouts??? Seems like a no brainer.

I reallly want a scriptable “export whole notebook” to pdf or html or wiki etc.

And resizeable pages so that they dont look shit on a smaller / larger screen (learn something from the web – it’s only been around for 19 years!)

what I really miss is, I would name it, “tagging while typing” (or “inline tagging”) :) , for example:

“I type this in onenote {spec_seq}Important” after pressing Enter I would have “I type this in onenote” tagged with tag “Important”

{spec_seq} should be user defined, for example “@#”, so

“tag this twice @#important @#review” will tag “tag this twice” with two tags (important, review)

Also following: user definable shortcuts to add current line (or paragraph) to defined page in current section. For example “Shift + Ctrl + 2″ moves or copy current line/paragraph to page “Actions” …

AAAAaaaaarggghhh! Still pissed off. Printing only section by section, oooe why would you want to print all at once??? Don’t you like sitting by the printer the whole day. I was so happy when I found this program, what i feel now is probably the meaning of polarity. Please someone ad a little print all button, doesn’t matter if it is hidden under a quadrillion menu’s. A little tiny zoom function would be handy too when doing a scetch with the pen. My pictures now look like I am three years old again. Great to be but I don’t want to go through the rest of it again…just a little zoom in and out, can’t be that hard. I wonder what all these bloggers are blogging about if you can’t do these basic things. Maybe OneNote is still a baby but wasn’t the first version released 2003? still no one needed to print a whole notebook since then??? That sounds very strange to me. I think all these bloggers are these guys wearing T-shirts saying I’m a OneNote Wannabe. We stick together, we all think out of the box, and we all get into extreme detail about things but forget the basics. Aint that right? I am so right!

Answer: I write them, by the way, who designed the look of this web page? It must have been that guy who didn’t think a zoom in and out funktion was needed. Who thinks this web site looks cool? Doesn’t rime with the OneNote capability if it were a bit more grown up. maybe 2010 will be. I hope it can print a whole notebook otherwise this TabletPC is going to be a square frisbee!

Who’s the genious who named these things Power Toys? Shouldn’t it be more something in the line of Unfinished Modules. Toys can be left out as mostly children plays with toys.
So how do i print the whole Notebook in one go?

OK, now I am ready with my notebook. Everything is perfect. All is tidy and neat. The sectioning is grandious, the grammar is perfect. Now I want to take the file to the printer shop on the corner, thay have some kind of printer that can print on very thin paper so I can get this perfekt notebook of mine into the pocket. BUT I CAN’T GIVE A FILE TO PRINT!
The adrenalin of a fuming bull is what I feel in my pinky now!!!

Now listen to this b-shait. I found an add-in at MS to be able to publish to PDF.
It checked the entire notebock, and whoopa yeah, they same old thing that makes me trust MS and you guys writingthis software, it told me:

Microsoft Office OneNote has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Is it sooo daned difficult to write a program???? I gues to write one that doesn’t work is real easy.

I am sooooo dissapointed with this OneNote program due to note being able to print out the entire Notebook.
A big fat post-it not program is what it is and one can put the notes at different places, draw on the, write on them, make a cookbook, but you can’t print it out, only post-it note by post-it note, oooone by oooone. That’s it, that’s why the software is called OneNote! How can i be soo stupid not to see that!!!!!

Onnnnne-Note
Maybe 2010 it wil be an improvemnet upgrade and callled TwoNote, you can print two pages!!! That would be goooed. It would half my waiting time while printing, can’t wait for ThreeNote.
